ReShape – Fitness and the Mind

When I first moved up here after graduating college two years ago, I wasn’t working out much and when I did, I would stick to the same routine of cardio. I have always struggled to find where I fit in at the gym.

I grew up as a swimmer and was always doing pool or swimming related workouts. I had a pool workout given to me that I got to tackle with my teammates. I would never work out alone or plan my own workouts. During the offseasons, I was always just doing cardio over and over again with some swimming on the side. When I hung up my goggles and went to college, I dabbled in some group exercise classes here and there but never found something that I really enjoyed. I knew from my swimming background that I liked the group atmosphere to keep me motivated while working out. However, I never enjoyed how busy the group exercise classes would get. This led me to small group training.

After reaching out to my friends for gym referrals, I learned about the new group training opportunity here at RVC, ReShape. I decided to join RVC shortly after hearing about ReShape and threw myself right into the class. Starting at a new gym is intimidating but meeting Katherine and all the other ladies in the class really got me excited about starting something new and being a part of the community. I have been in every ReShape session since it started and finally found what I enjoy! When I walk into class, I know I won’t be bored doing the same routine or struggling through my workout alone.

Since starting ReShape last October, I have noticed some great changes not just in the gym but outside of the gym. Attending ReShape two times a week for the past year has made me so much stronger than I’ve ever been. It’s a great feeling beating your fitness goals every session.

Having Katherine as a trainer has given me the motivation to keep coming back every day. Not only has it reshaped my strength and fitness levels, it has also reshaped my mind. Going to the gym used to be a daunting task but now I build my schedule around my workouts. In addition to the gym success, I have had the confidence to be more adventurous. I have always been on the shy side, afraid to do many things alone. Joining RVC  and training to get stronger with Katherine has helped me feel confident with anything I’m doing.

After a year of training my body and mind, I took my first solo trip! I traveled across the pond to London all by myself. It was an incredible experience that I would have never done if it weren’t for Katherine. Katherine helped me believe in myself more than I ever have before. Everytime I workout with her, not just in ReShape, I feel like I can tackle anything that comes my way. I look forward to continuing my fitness journey here at RVC!
