FitKids Childcare Expands to New Facility

Since becoming a licensed program over ten years ago, FitKids Childcare at RVC has seen continuous growth.

This year marks a milestone for not only the program but also the local community with the construction of a brand new facility, located next to the River Valley Club.

The expansion will allow for a larger program, accommodating the growing need for quality care in the Upper Valley. Every year we see the demand for childcare continue to grow and many programs have reached the limits of what they are able to provide.

This leaves many families in our community with tough choices when it comes to the care of their children. With their new building, FitKids Childcare will now have the ability to serve many more families.

Parents, teachers, and children have all played active roles in the design, layout, and amenities of the new space. The inspiration for the building’s design and decor uses the local flora and fauna as a foundation.

Large windows will allow for lots of natural light and serve as a great viewing platform for children to observe the outside surroundings. Classrooms will feel warm and calm, with natural tones.

Easy access for parents to drop off and pick up was a priority. Therefore, FitKids designed individual classrooms with doors accessing the parking lot and playground. For the safety of families, FitKids will also feature a state-of-the-art security system within the new building and around the facility.

The most exciting and unique element of the entire project has been the design and development of the adventure playground. FitKids Childcare worked with architectural engineers to create an outdoor space that uses natural elements found in the woods of New Hampshire. The final result is a fun and educational space, promoting children’s desire to engage in their natural environment.

Richard Louv, author of The Last Child in the Woods, coined the phrase “nature deficit disorder”. The vision behind the development of the nature playground is to re-acclimate children with nature and provide them with opportunities to use imagination, be creative, and to explore many elements of their natural surroundings.

FitKids Childcare is currently accepting applications for enrollment at their new facility for August 2016. They are also hiring teachers to join their growing team! For inquiries on childcare availability and career information please contact FitKids Childcare Director, Jenn Parker.

Beginning at Ten Months: A Family Story

“Both of my children began at FitKids Childcare when they were ten months old. Josie, my eldest, has transitioned through and is now preparing to end her FitKids journey. With each transition, Josie was sad to leave her teachers and the comfort of her surroundings but quickly warmed up with the help of her new teachers who encouraged her with the fresh opportunities that awaited.

Josie enjoys pretend play, arts and crafts, reading, physical activities, and quiet time. FitKids has helped her greatly with learning about asking for what she needs, using her words rather than her tears, and taking on more responsibility as it becomes more age appropriate. I’m proud of my girl and excited for her to begin Kindergarten. I know she will be ready.

When Samson was ten months old, he joined a multi-age classroom, enabling him to develop with his classmates and teachers. Samson is now two and half years and is very happy.
He has formed friendships with his classmates and has been encouraged to take new steps that have allowed him to go from a baby to a little boy.

Samson’s artwork is his greatest joy as well as his outside playtime where he can interact with other kids, explore, and really just have fun.

I never worry about the well-being of my children when I drop them off at FitKids. I know they are safe and in very loving hands. FitKids has been a wonderful foundation for both of my children’s early education.” –Amalia Myers
