I grew up in northern England where my brothers were football mad (Leeds United) but my first sporting love was always tennis. I began playing at my secondary school and on the local park courts. My fascination with Wimbledon inspired me, and I became the Yorkshire Junior tennis champion.
As I moved on to University, career and marriage, it became harder to find time to play until we settled on Cape Cod in the summers where I played in a summer league. Six children later, I found myself supporting their sports (tennis, lacrosse, soccer, rugby) but had little time for my own pursuits. Two bouts with cancer took a toll on my health and my life and time became consumed with healing and raising a family.
My son Ciaran eventually returned to tennis after playing for his college and in Cape Cod summer leagues. He supported my return to tennis while I insisted that I had lost my confidence.
Enter Tammy and Chad Arado, the tennis Pros at RVC. While I expressed doubt about playing again, Tammy gave me unequivocal support and encouragement. I have started slowly, doing clinics with both Tammy and Chad, learning so much and having FUN! I have been supported by my Personal Trainer at RVC, Amy Fortier and now I start my day three times a week the BEST way – playing tennis!
Ciaran has continued to play and has actually won both the in-house RVC Singles and Doubles leagues twice and now my four year-old granddaughter Cora has a racquet in her hand and is joining in the family sport. Being introduced to the tennis program has hanged my life and health and re-ignited my lifelong love of the sport.
