1. What got you interested in CrossFit?
I’ve had a number of friends over the years who were CF athletes but never really thought it would be for me. I moved to the upper valley back in 2013 and have been going to the Dartmouth College gym. I eventually got sick of exercising by myself and thought I would try something new and join CF. Been hooked ever since. The group dynamic is awesome.

2. How long have you been doing CF?
I joined CF RVC in December of 2016. This is my first CF box membership.

3. What is your favorite CF Workout?
I’m still pretty new to this, so I haven’t done enough of the benchmark workouts to really have a favorite yet. My favorite exercise though, is the squat snatch. To perform correctly it requires much more than strength, you also have to have power, speed, flexibility, and coordination, among other things. Being good at exercises like that takes a balanced athlete, which is what is most important to me and why I enjoy the variety of movements that we do at CF RVC.

4. What are the biggest changes CF has made in you/ your life?
I had never spent much time working on mobility before CF. I now spend on average 20-30 minutes before workouts on mobility. Not only has this improved my CF performance, but it makes me feel amazing.

In addition to the mobility training, probably the biggest change is that I now look forward to going to the gym. Exercise used to be something that I had to force myself to do. Now CF is one of the best parts of my day. We’re all pulled in 1000 different directions every day with work and life, being at CF is a place where I can focus on just one thing, and that’s awesome.

5. What do you do for work?
I am a physician at Dartmouth-Hitchcock doing my residency in vascular surgery (year 5 of 7).

6. What outside activities do you like to do?
In the warm months I enjoy running and hiking and occasionally kayaking. In the winter months I try get out to snowboard whenever I can (I’m a native New Englander).

7. What is the furthest CF box you have visited?
In June I dropped in at the Invictus gym in downtown San Diego California. It was great to just be able to show up and take a class and have everyone just be there to exercise and have fun. The CF community is awesome.
